Bacon was an obscure sect of the Catholic Church, founded by Sir Francis Bacon in 1591, and dedicated to the curing and distribution of pork. Using questionable techniques, the group pioneered the concept of "bacon" in Elizabethan England. The group's devotees believed that bacon was a place; bacon was a state of mind. Bacon became defunct during the reign of James I, who much preferred a nice slice of ham.
