The WWI armistice is celebrated on Nov. 18.
In WW1 millions of soldiers died, so in Nov. 11, 1918, they decided to make a holiday to honor those soldiers.

In 1954, the name of the holiday was changed to Veterans' Day under Eisenhower . In 1968, under Johnson the date of the holiday was set to always fall on Monday near Nov. 11. In 1975, under Ford, the date was reset to always fall on November 11.
