What was daily life like Constantinople?

In Constantinople they did lots of things in there daily life like church, praying, farms, boats, and working around the house and city, to help them and their home. They believed in God and all that is holy. The city was busy and very crowded.

There was trade, wealth, business, everyday activity, and they would go to the Hippodrome.

Life in Constantinople was the same as in all other ancient cities. The poor barely managed to survive and the rich lived in opulence.

Life in Constantinople was more advanced than the Western Europeans. They had sewage systems & were provided with hospitals homes for the elderly & orphanage's.

Many people had lived in poverty, The emperor gave bread to those in need in turn for doing a job.

Many were always busy at work cropping, on a voyage or working in the markets.

People attended church regularly & also went to the hippodrome to see chariot races.

Typically it would be similar to other large cities of the era. The lower classes would have lived pretty much the same as the Romans at their cities height of power. There would have been a large number of slaves, peasants, servants and the like. These would have been the majority of the population. Given Constantinople's strategic position on the old silk road there were also large merchant quarters for foreign merchants to live and store their goods in, towards the end of the Empire some of these quarters had more foreign merchants than there were citizens in the city. The population would have been very mixed, mostly Greeks, Slavs, Turks, Scandinavians and Italians. The monotony of daily work was broken up with numerous festivals and entertainments, the most popular of these would have been the chariot races, which inspired a degree of fanaticism similar to today's soccer fans, there were a few Chariot riots which almost destroyed the whole empire, they were that serious. The city its self was one of, if not the most, populous and powerful cities on Earth at the height of its glory, this was reflected in the cities austere architecture and decor. The citizens of the city considered themselves to be culturally far superior compared to Medieval Christendom and this affected their attitude towards foreigners.
