Explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa was the first European to see the eastern shore of the Pacific Ocean. In 1513, while leading an expedition in search of gold. Balboa claimed the ocean and all of its shores for Spain, opening the way for later Spanish exploration and conquest along the western coast of South America.
Nunez De Vaca discovered the state of Texas. De Vaca came to America in 1527 on his exploration trip.
