They wanted to leave England because they thought the Church of England had too much ritual and decorations,The Quakers were organized by William Penn who had gotten an land grant from the king to pay off a debt the king owed his father. Several times Penn had been arrested for his Quaker beliefs and was jailed. He had to leave England. Both groups were very much alike in the fact they wanted to practice in their own ways.
