it all depends what time period you are talking about. these days, it is a museum that re-connects us to our past. back in the time where most immigrants had to pass through there to enter the united states, it was crowded, not as clean, but full of hope. the people going through their would hope they passed the tests to see if they were healthy enough to enter, and they would hope for a better future in the United States of America than in their country or countries of origin.
