When and where were the atomic bombs dropped during World War 2?

If you are referring to "the" bombs, it sounds like you're referring to the two "Atomic" bombs that were dropped on the city of Hiroshima on 06 August 1945, and Nagasaki on 09 August 1945, thus ending WWII. If your referring to the Battle of Iwo Jima (where the US flag was raised), bombs and naval guns pounded that whole island.

How long ago were the atomic bombs dropped?

The only time atomic bombs were dropped in combat was in 1945.The last time either the US or USSR dropped an atomic bomb for test purposes was in 1963.When my brother was in the army in Germany doing maneuvers with nuclear antitank landmines, he dropped an atomic bomb on his hand squashing one finger like a stepped on hotdog. (of course this is a different sense of meaning of the word dropped) This was in the late 1970s.Other countries may have dropped atomic bombs for test purposes more recently.

What was the largest nuclear bomb?

When people talk about nuclear bombs, they are generally in two categories; atomic and thermonuclear. Atomic bombs are like the ones dropped on Japan in 1945.Thermonuclear bombs have never been used in warfare and involve using an atomic bomb to set off an explosion of a thermonuclear bomb, like a hydrogen bomb.IN ADDITION:The Soviet exploded the largest nuclear bomb to date back in 1961. It was a hydrogen bomb which released energy equivalent to 57 megatons of TNT. Compare that to the 15 kilotons of energy released by the first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima Japan during WWII ( 3,800 times more energy released). The name of this device was Tsar Bomba, meaning "king of bombs."
