Pretty heavy.
Lincoln himself had declared that he did not regard blacks as equals, so the rank-and-file were hardly likely to.
Most blacks in the Union army were ex-slaves who had simply tagged along with their liberators, neither side knowing what was to be done with them.
At first they were just used for menial tasks around the camps, usually wearing cast-off uniforms. Then some of the junior ranks realised that they might be promoted quicker if there were (presumably unpromotable) black troops serving under them.
In the end, there were whole black brigades, some of whom were sent out on operations.
The blacks helped the whites, and were totally and completely free, and fought for the union against the confederacy.
they faced many trials. if they were caught they would not be treated like prisoners of war they were either sent back to slavery or were killed.

The ultimate goals of the Civil Rights Movement were to end racial segregation and discrimination against African Americans.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 officially banned discrimination on the basis of color, among other things, but that did not stop discrimination. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 ensured voting rights and the Fair Housing Act of 1968 banned discrimination in housing.

There is no amendment that is discrimintory in that manor. There are Amendments that prevent slavery, which was predominitly an African American issue. (Although there were African American that did own slaves also). That was the 13th Amendment. It occured shortly after the civil war. There is also many anti discrimination amendments that are against any form of discrimination based on ANY color, race, religion, age or sexual orientation.
