It all depends on several factors. Some of those old blackpowder pistols are gold inlaid with fancy engraving, while others were plain Jane guns, the same goes for the cap and ball revolvers. As for modern reproductions of the old guns, they're pretty much the same price. I have 6 modern reproductions, 5 are 1858 Remingtons and one is a double barrel percussion pistol and they were all around the same prices.
You will have to define what "large caliber" means to you and weather the pistol is a revolver, singleshot, blackpowder, rifmfire, centerfire, pinfire, semi-automatic.
A semi-auto pistol would be more prone to malfunction than a revolver.
A revolver4 is a pistol, however if you're talking about semi auto vs revolver, or mm vs gauge... Semi auto allows you to fire more rapidly and can carry more ammo, however many feel that a revolver is more accurate.
No way to answer without more details.
It's the round which makes the difference, not the pistol. A .45 automatic pistol is going to be more powerful than a .38 revolver, for example. There are revolvers chambered in cartridges such as the .454 Casull and .500 S&W Magnum, which aren't available in any automatic pistols, but it's still ultimately the round which matters, and not whether it's an automatic or revolver.
That number of rounds can vary. Most of us are familiar with revolvers that hold six rounds. Some pistol magazines can hold up to 13 and more. I know of one revolver with a cylinder that holds nine rounds.
A shotgun is a firearm. A revolver is a firearm. A pistol is a firearm. A rifle is a firearm. If you want even more specific -- A Remington 1187 is a firearm (shotgun). A Smith and Wesson 686 is a firearm (revolver). A Sig Sauer P226 is a firearm (pistol). A Colt 6920 is a firearm (rifle).
If you are reffering to a handgun that firs a .32cal then the difference is huge. The .40 cal revolver (wether it be a python or an m500) is a very reliable make. Any revolver is more reliable than a compact pistol that is.
To answer the question we'll need to know more about this pistol. Is it a revolver or a semiauto? What model and caliber? I found a Colt frontier scout .22 with that serial number made in 1962.
Its a pistol. More specifically a 6-shot, single-action revolver, made by Sturm Ruger and Company.
Almost impossible to answer without a more restrictive specification. Handguns date back centuries to the Chinese, who used fused bamboo tubes loaded with blackpowder and stones. The tube was mounted on the end of a pole so the warrior could hold it out away from his body for safety, and for aiming. I suppose some of them with shorter poles could be considered the first blackpowder pistols. After that, the technology progressed over the centuries to matchlock, flintlock, percussion, and modern cartridges.
Very generally speaking, a revolver has a revolving cylinder that rotates in order to bring a new round in line with the barrel. A pistol has a single chamber, and fresh rounds are fed into the chamber from a magazine. That is the more recent and slang use of those words. Revolvers and magazine fed semi-automatics are both pistols.
