1. Foods were rationed because they needed the food for the fighting warriors and for the United Kingdom.
2. Tires were rationed because they needed the rubber for the military vehicles and other things.
3. Gasoline was severely rationed because the "war machine" used hundreds of thousands of gasoline daily.
4. Clothing was limited so the uniforms and shoes and field gear could be made.
5. Metals were limited because they went to building the vessels and machines for war.
6. Antibiotics and other medical supplies were rationed to the hospitals and pharmacies so the men overseas could get what they needed. Blood was scarce in the blood banks but people lined up around buildings to donate blood for the US home front and the war front.
7. Now on a more interesting note: They did not have jet planes, global positioning techniques because there were no satellites nor did they have computers! They did not have television, cell phones, but they did have teletype and telegraph and radio.
