Because the Korean War lacked the large audience that WWII had, historians didn't have the interest in it (the Korean War) to correct the statement, "stalemate." Korea was the world's first post atomic age "limited war." Limited due to nuclear weapons. "Limited wars" were the effect on the US & the world (which included the communist superpowers). North Korea & South Korea existed before the Korean War broke out in 1950. NORTH Korea and SOUTH Korea existed after the Korean War ended in 1953. Therefore NORTH Korea failed to conquer (defeat) SOUTH Korea which is a NORTH Korean defeat (since they failed to obtain their objective). SOUTH Korea (ROK=Republic of SOUTH Korea) was preserved...it still exists...therefore the Korean War was a UN (United Nations)/US victory (since SOUTH Korea existed before the war & existed after the war & NORTH Korea failed it's mission (to conquer ROK).
additional consequences may have been (since so many considered that period of America 'peace time' (obvious fallacy) or a success)...both or either of which might have contributed to our entering into conflict with (previously French occupied) Indochina, now known as: Vietnam, because so many had amnesia regarding how horrible war can be (whether we 'win' or not the T.V. program M.A.S.H. did an excellent job (for the time) of reminding the public of the Korean War, because even if Korea was a success (thank God South Korea is free!) Vietnam is NOT...many consider the Vietnam War to be not just a stalemate, but a FAILURE!
The war ended in a stalemate.
General MacArthur favored breaking the stalemate in the Korean War with a bold attack. He landed his army at Inchon and moved it south, trapping the North Korean army between the United States army and the South Korean army inside the Pusan Perimeter in the south of the country.
After, coming to a stalemate, They finally came to a cease-fire agreement in 1953.
The Korean War had no effect on Canada's sovereignty.
As a result of the Korean War, with the help of the United States, South Korea remained free from Communist control. It resulted in a democratic government in South Korea and a communist government in North Korea. The war resulted in two countries in a state of permanent hostility, other nations mourning lost men, and neither side having gained any ground. Are you driving a car made in the Republic of Korea? If you are, thank the victory won during the Korean War. The result of the war was a stalemate. The Armistice is still in effect since 1953.
