Germany's role was a simple one: that of attacking Britain.

The US, among other countries not involved with the European war, were spectators to the Battle of Britain, which took place in the fall of 1940. The only special effect the battle had upon the US; was the fact that Britain and the US speak a common language, and the US had at one time been part of the British Empire (Revolutionary War 1776). In effect, it was like watching our relatives involved in a fight.
Canadian Air forces were involved in the Battle of Britain and our Navy played one of the most important roles of the war providing supplies and Convoy protection to Britain almost right from the start in 1939.
Great Britain was one of the nations that was most directly involved in WW I, and Canada had close cultural and political ties to Britain, and therefore was inevitably involved in any conflict that involved Britain. And since Canada was involved, Canadian men were interested.

No, the British were not involved. The battle was between the US and the Shawnee Native American tribe. The Shawnee did pledge allegiance to Britain and entered an alliance with them when the US declared war. This is one of the reasons why the US attacked them. The British could not provide support in time.
