Our family looked at the program fairly regularily and cannot recall any canine acts in or around the person of Red Skelton. Skelton did a variety of skits and different characters all based on Red . It became somewhat tiresome. He was evidentally not a skillful enough actor to do situation comedy- like Gleason, for example. On the other hand Skelton did a variety of movie roles including a cab driver and even more oddly, a Barney-Oldfield era racing driver - the film was called Excuse my Dust, and was based on a novel by Bellamy Partridge- the Floyd Clymer motor books took pains to state that Excuse My Dust was NOT a racing book in the sense of something about say, Wilbur Shaw or other real racing drivers!

I believe you are referring to Frank Fontaine ( Gleason played the bartender- Mr. Dunahee) who was a comedy act on the JACKIE GLEASON show- not the Red Skelton hour. Skelton himself did drunk acts.
