First airplane to fly in Europe of original design (not a Wright Knock-off) was the l4 Bis of Alberto Santos-Dumont. This was around l907-08. Dumont had previously operated what we now call blimps in and around Paris. He was a Brazilian engineer residing in Paris. Senor Dumont died in l932. He also in part, popularized the wrist watch of the (Santos) design.
