Fort Pillow had 58 32-Lb guns. The Confederates built 3 rings of defenses against over-land attacks. It was large enough to defend with 7,500 troops but the Confederates probably never had that many there.

Vicksburg, Mississippi, essentially became a fort with its high bluffs. It took several weeks before the city was captured.

Island No. 10 was an important fort, but it doesn't appear to be very large. It had 52 cannon in and around this fort.

Forts Henry and Donelson were not located on the Mississippi River.
