What was the UK chart position for Question by the Moody Blues?

Released with Candle of Life (the album track from To Our Children's Children's Children instead of the partially complete song, nominally called Mike's Number One, recorded at the same session as Question) as the B-side on the Threshold label (catalogue number TH 4) on 24th April 1970, it peaked at number two in the UK charts. But for the fact that the England team had won the football World Cup four years earlier, and that there was a national self-delusion that they were invincible and would repeat the success in Mexico City, the associated novelty song, Back Home, would not have graced the charts for so long or reached so high. The almost religious fervour behind the national team's doomed and thwarted attempts to repeat the success of 1966 held the ridiculous song in the number one position, denying the Moody Blues their second number one. Nevertheless, Question remains the band's most successful single . It was considered a risk at the time because of its length (in spite of other songs such as the Beatles Hey Jude in 1968 proving otherwise) and executives worried that it wouldn't sell because the record-buying public would not be able to hold their attention long enough to listen to it.
