Isolationism
The U.S. wanted to stay neutral and let this be Europe's war.
In the build-up to American involvement as an active combatant in World War I (in April of 1917), the general policy dominating American government and society was "Isolationism". Most Americans viewed the European war as just that -- European. Isolating themselves from the bloody and destructive conflict seemed to be a sensible and even profitable choice.

Year Zero in Cambodia was declared by the Khmer Rouge regime, led by Pol Pot, after they took power in April 1975. This designation marked the beginning of their radical social and political reforms aimed at creating an agrarian communist society. The regime sought to erase the existing culture and history, resulting in widespread atrocities and the loss of millions of lives during the Cambodian genocide.
It was from 25 April to 12 August 1899. Spain declared war on 23 April and the US Congress declared that a State of War had been in existence since 21 April.
