The battle of Midway.
"Island Hopping"
The USA dropped atom bombs on Hiroshomia and Nagaskai; and Russia declared war on Japan. Japan was a country where surrender was considered a "loss of face", but the atomic bombs and Russia convinced Japan to surrender.
The atom bomb first dropped on Hiroshima and Japan kept on fighting. Then in the next day or so the US dropped another atom bomb on Nagasaki. Finally, Japan surrendered under the terms of the US. This was the last victory the US had after V-E day, Victory in England Day, and many others. During this time period Hitler was killing many Jews and he killed himself right before the US had their victory. Japan was the last fighting country to surrender, so after V-J day, Victory in Japan Day, the war was finally over.
I believe it was the Battle of Midway.
Japan signed the surrender document which officially ended World War 2
VJ Day is Victory over Japan Day. On August 15, 1945 the Japanese surrendered World War II. Americans were very happy because it meant the war was effectively over and the US troops would soon be returning home.
Victory over whom.
The victory was significant because that meant that the US got the Pacific back and it also avoided the invasion of the USSR into China which would have resulted in the Soviet Union asking for concessions after the war is done.
The US was victorious over Japan in 1945. This occurred when Harry Truman instructed American pilots to drop two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It ended the war, but the casualties and devastation it brought upon the Japanese was horrendous.
In 1942, the U.S. won a decisive victory over Japan in the Battle of Midway. Occurring in June of that year, the battle saw U.S. naval and air forces sink or damage numerous ships (especially aircraft carriers) in Japan's fleet while turning back Japan's bid to invade Midway Island in the Pacific Ocean. U.S. losses were, by comparison, light.
