Well, I can't be exactly sure. I've never heard that terminology before, but best I can figure is that that is a reference to his African influenced period. This took place between 1907-1909 and helped develop many of the stylistic ideas used during his Cubism period.Answer 2:There is no such thing as Picasso's black period.

The 'Blue Period' is a time in the art world were Picasso painted dreary monochromatic scenes dominantly in blue with only hints of green or other colours This lasted for years, and his subject matter dealt mostly with prostitutes and other dreary, lowly specimens. Many attribute this to a time where Picasso was rather depressed, however this is not considered an art "movement" as Picasso was the only one to pursue these elements and characteristics.
