Around 2,500 deaths were caused by the most serious eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano in 1985. The town of Armero was covered in a mass of mud and debris (or lahar) which the volcano produced.
The 1985 eruption of Nevado del Ruiz melted snow and ice near the summit. This water mized with ash and sediment, forming a series of mudflows called lahars. These buried several communities, particularly the town of Armero. Many people were buried alive, some were crushed. Some, who were partially buried died of thirst or starvation when they couldn't be rescued.
All of the deaths were the result of mudflows called lahars.
the main cause is when the gas and rain cloud comes to the place you live , lava bombs hitting you or the lava destructing your town! x
Mudflows
Hope this helped! =)
