The first car was not a Ford. The first "car" as we define it was built by Karl Benz in 1885. Pictures I have seen show it being either black or dark green, but since many replicas of it have been made I am not sure. Henry Ford built his first car around 1896, and didn't found the Ford company till 1903. Like many early cars, he used black because it was a fast-drying, cheap paint, and at that time many horse carriages were traditionally finished in black as well.
