in the beginning, it was mentioned that Dr.Heidegger had invited four of his 'venerable' friends to his own scientific experiment. In the end, all four of them behave foolishly and repeat the same mistakes. Therefore, the word 'venerable' here is used as an example of irony.
The message behind the story is that even if given the chance to grow younger once again you will never really change if your aim or goal in life is to have fun or have all the pleasure you want. For me it isn't wrong to take advantage of the current state or situation having that opportunity is really one of a kind.
DR. Heidegger offers to share some water he got from the fountain of youth with his four friends. The friends take the water with the determination that they will get a second chance at life and not repeat the same mistakes they had done. The irony in the story is that they repeat the same mistakes they had done previously and hope to get another chance, a third chance, to rectify. The water they had taken did not change anything. Their hope is that they do not repeat these mistakes the third time, and for this, they think they have to find the fountain and drink more of the water. The Doctor knows that they cannot change and can't find the fountain either.
they decided to go to Florida to have more of the fountain of youth whenever they wanted any.
The inevitability of old age and death, I'd say.
The conclusion of Dr. Heidegger's experiment is that he learns he does not want to be young again. He has seen how the elixir affects his friends and does not want to turn out like them.
foolishness, and greed
No matter what, people dont change.
Greed
The mirror, in literal terms, is an object in which we can see our own reflection. But Dr. Heidegger also sees in his own mirror, the images of his deceased patients. The mirror symbolizes his past failures and those patients he could not save. This symbol is a key to the character of Heidegger, who is aware of human limitations that we could not be young again even if he could be.~Pink.Zebra~Source: Adventures in American Literature -Harcourt Brace Jovanovich
The Latin word for conclusion is conclusio
"There must be more money! There must be more money!"
forgone conclusion...matter of fact
what is the conflict in Dr. Heideggers experiment
The point of view in "Dr. Heidegger's Experiment" is third-person omniscient, where the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of multiple characters. This allows the reader to gain insight into the motivations and actions of Dr. Heidegger and his guests as the story unfolds.
In "Dr. Heidegger's Experiment," the three events that were foreshadowed include the return of the subjects to their youthful appearances, the fleeting nature of youth and beauty, and the potential consequences of rekindling old desires and mistakes.
The widow Wycherley was a former lover of Colonel Killigrew and Mr. Medbourne in Dr. Heidegger's experiment. She was also acquainted with Mr. Gascoigne, who had once been her husband's lawyer.
The black folio in "Dr. Heidegger's Experiment" symbolizes temptation, sin, and the mistakes of the past. It represents the allure of revisiting past experiences and the consequences of indulging in them. Dr. Heidegger's guests are tempted by the contents of the folio, leading to their downfall as they repeat the same mistakes they made in their youth.
The portrait of Dr. Heideggar's wife on the wall (described early in the story) foreshadows the failure of the experiment because his wife had died of his own potion. Also, I read online that the rose also foreshadowed something, but I didnt care to figure it out. Hope that helped.
