The problems people encountered on the santa fe trail were attacks by the native americans, starvation because people didn't expect the voyage they were taking to be so hard to endure, and they had the problem of their cattle dying due to starvation, and the people ended up staying longer because they didn't have cattle to haul their wagons, therefore making them travel on foot. Thus causing more problems and adding onto the problems they already had.
