The Japanese attack on Singapore was swift & is an example of British military incompetance. It followed the Japanese occupation of the Malay peninsula. The British lost 2 capital ships to Japanese aircraft bombing: The Prince of Wales & Repulse. The idea that the defensive guns were 'pointing the wrong way' is erroneous. Singapore was taken because the British & their Australian Allies misused their defensive capabilities. The Bombing of Singapore was in December of 1941.
