The day of celebration at the end of a war is commonly referred to as "Victory Day." This term is most notably associated with May 8th and 9th, which commemorate the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, celebrated in various countries with parades, ceremonies, and other festivities. In the United States, a similar observance is marked on Veterans Day, honoring all military veterans.

V-day.
World War 2 ended on Europe on 8 May 1945, when the Allies accepted the formal German surrender. That day was called VE-Day, for Victory in Europe. Although this day was a celebration, for many people the war had not ended, because fighting in Asia and the Pacific against Japan continued into August.
In Europe the first celebration was for the surrender of Germany, and was called VE day (Victory in Europe) in Britain. A second, much smaller, celebration was held in some places when Japan surrendered: VJ day. In Germany the harsh winter of 1945/6 saw large numbers of people starve to death or freeze to death in the streets - especially the old and children. They called it Jahr Null (Year Zero).
In WW2 it was called VE - Day.
