Surveyor 1, it was a soft lander built for NASA that would collect surface data for the Apollo Program. It landed on June 2, 1966.
In 1962 on the 26th of April, Ranger IV landed on the moon but was unsuccessful in sending back pictures because of technical faults. This was the first American spacecraft to reach the moon. The first spacecraft to reach the moon was the Luna 2 from the USSR in 1959 .
Many American spacecraft have reached Mars. All were unmanned, however.
Venera 3 was the first spacecraft to reach the planet's surface on March 1, 1966. It didn't land as such, more crashed.
The first rocket to get near the moon was the Soviet Luna 1 spacecraft in 1959. Later that year, the Soviet Luna 2 spacecraft was the first manmade object to reach the surface of the moon.
The New Horizons spacecraft. It will reach Pluto July 14th 2015.
Analysis of the surface of Pluto indicates that it consists of 98% frozen nitrogen. The New Horizons spacecraft is expected to reach Pluto in 2015. It is hoped that more detailed analysis of the surface and atmosphere will then be available.
If he is not tied properly he could float away, but they are careful.
It takes about 3 days for a spacecraft to reach the moon. During that time a spacecraft travels about 240,000 miles (386,400 kilometers) which is the distance between Earth and the moon. Currently, technology is not at the point where devices carrying humans can reach other planets. Our moon is the farthest a human has ever been from Earth. However, if this technology ever develops farther, we could theoretically land on some of the outer planet's moons. Io, for example, is one of Jupiter's moons. It is made of solid rock and is therefore sturdy enough to land a spacecraft on.
On January 2, the Soviet Union successfully launches the Luna 1 spacecraft. Luna 1 became the first ever man-made object to reach the "escape velocity" of the earth (the velocity required to break free of the gravitational field). This was also the first spacecraft to successfully reach the vicinity of the moon. On September 14, the Soviet spacecraft Luna 2 crash lands on the surface of the moon. This was the first ever spacecraft to reach the surface of the moon. On October 3, the Soviet spacecraft Luna 3 (commonly known as Lunik 3) is launched, it's goal is to orbit the moon and take pictures of it's back - the side always faced away from the Earth. Lunik 3 was successful and even do the pictures taken were of poor quality they caused large excitement.
