The 1952 Dallas Texans. When the New York Yanks folded, Owner Ted Collins sold the team to a group of Texas businessmen led by Giles Miller. Before the first season was even halfway completed, the team was returned to the NFL and operated out of Hershey, Penn. even though they kept the name, Dallas Texans.
The following year the NFL awarded Baltimore the franchise and they became the 2nd incarnation of the Baltimore Colts, who had played in the All -American Football Conference from 1946-1949 and were one of 3 teams that merged with the NFL in 1950. They folded after the 1950 season, and the Yanks were brought back in for the 1951 season where they failed and were sent to Dallas. The Colts that came from the ashes of the '52 Texans won the NFL Title in the infamous 1958 Sudden Death Over-time game considered by many to be the greatest ever played.
They are often confused with the 1960 AFL Dallas Texans that became the Chiefs in 1963.
