RAM or the processor cacheWhen the data and instructions reach the RAM they are operated on immediately. For data and instructions that the CPU is working on right at that time, these memory locations are called Registers. Many systems have dedicated registers just for EITHER data or instructions, while others have a set of registers which can be used for either, and still other CPUs have all three (data, instruction, and general-use registers).
Registers
The fastest type of memory on a computer is the registers that form the execution model of the processor.

Registers in a microprocessor are utilized, even though the same operations can be done using RAM, in order to boost performance. Registers, although adding cost and complexity, are very much faster than RAM. Its a balance between performance and cost.

The h-L register in computing refers to a pair of registers used in some processors to store a 16-bit memory address. It is often used for memory operations and calculations involving memory addresses. The h register stores the high-order byte while the l register stores the low-order byte of the address.
