Thomas Jefferson was the president when the first US census was made.
The first census conducted by Augustus Caesar in Rome indicated there were approximately 350,000 males. Apparently females were not counted in this particular census.

You can if the Census is old enough. They do not release information on living individuals, so the census has to be old enough to not raise privacy issues.
