Djoser's Step Pyramid at Saqqaura is the first pyramid an Egyptian built.
The first pyramid in Egypt was the step pyramid of king Djoser, also known as Zoser. It was a step pyramid, consisting of mastabas placed on top of each other, and designed by his architect Imhotep.

The first step toward the Great Pyramid from the Matasbas was the stacking of two Matasbas on top of each other. Djoser's step pyramid is 5 mastabas descending in size stacked on top of each other. In the Third Kingdom with the invention of building and working with stone lead to the construction of the Great Pyramid with its limestone facing.
