Motte and bailey castles are made out of wood which produces many advantages including: * They are reasonably strong * They are able to be built within a few weeks * They have a moat which makes invading the castle alot harder * There is a big hill that the motte is built on so the archers in the motte can shoot them with arrows whilst the attackers are scrambling up the hill * They are cheap There are also many more advantages.

• Because it is high you can see enemies coming from far.
• It is on a hill so it is hard to climb up.
• There are a lot of soldiers surrounding it.
• There is a lot of defence.

∙ 13y agoThe good about a Motte and Bailey is the Motte was on a high hill and the Bailey was blocked in by a ditch and fences; however, the bad about a Motte and Bailey was the wood they were usually made of(wood) wasn't as good as the upcoming stone castles built shortly after.
