New France had a large territory, including eastern parts of Canada and much of the central part of the United States. The northern parts of New France had an economy that depended largely on furs and fishing. The southern parts included New Orleans, and was more involved in agriculture, but also had furs as an important export product.
It was controlled by the king overall but, due to severe long winters in Canada and the distance between New France and France, the king could not control it as well as being there himself. There was the intendant, the governor, those that control over the army or militia of New France. There was also the church, which in many cases wasn't as strong there as in France due to low tithes(instead of 1/10 paid to church, it was 1/26)
and that the government controlled most of New France than the church. The weird thing about the government of New France was that all government officials were chosen by the king himself. They had to do as they were told by the king in his lettters but, they would often slip the letters at the bottom of the files and their to-do lists. The government remained in power especially the intendant and the governor. Later, there was also the bishop who helped with education and medication for the good people of New France.
Hope this helped!
