The were a bit larger than normal size wolf, ranging in weight from about 110 lbs to 174 lbs. The Dire Wolf also had shorter front legs then today's wolf. The did hunt in packs, but brain wise was not suppose to be as intelligent as current wolves.
Dire wolves were actually around 24 inches at the shoulder, which is around the Mexican wolves' height (the Mexican wolf is the smallest gray wolf). Dire wolves made up for their short stature in weight.
they where around the size of a small bear, making them large enough to hunt prehistoric buffalo and horses
Dire wolves had shorter legs compared to its body then gray wolves but were up to 70 pounds heavier. So i would say the average Dire wolf was 2.8 tall at the shoulder with the largest being almost 4 feet. Since the largest recorded Gray wolf weight was 175 lbs and three feet at the shoulder and there is a roomer going around about a wolf weighing 235 lbs. If this is true then the Dire wolf could have gotten 305 lbs that's more then the average lioness. But if the old record is the largest wolf then the Dire wolf would have only gotten to be 245 lbs almost as much as the average lioness.
Canis Dirus, better known as the Dire wolf, lived on earth approximately 10,000 years ago and reigned as a top predator for nearly 2 million years. Though generally larger than the modern day Gray wolf, at 250 lbs and 5 feet in length, it lived in North America and coexisted with the Gray wolf for thousands of years, just as coyotes and Gray wolves live along side each other today.
The Dire wolf weighed 175 pounds and was a little over 2 feet tall, so even though it was very heavy, it was no taller than the smallest gray wolf alive today (Mexican gray wolves to be exact.)
A gray wolf is on average is 90 pounds, though some have been recorded to weigh around 175 pounds as well.
Dire wolves were about 1.5 metres (5 ft) in length and weighing about 57-79 kilograms (125-175 lb, but could reach much larger; up to 7 feet in length.
About 3-4 feet tall at the shoulder and weighed up to 70 pounds more then the grey wolf. Sadly it is now extinct.
The dire wolf was about 2 feet tall. They weighed over 100 pounds and lived in various places throughout North America.
up to 5 ft
Dire wolf was created in 1858.
The Dire Wolf has been extinct for over 10,000 years.
the dire wolf went extinct because there started to be less and less of them. everyday a dire wolf had got killed by a human, another animal, or from not eating
the Dire Wolf died off between 10-16000 yearsago.
what was so dire ? The surgery was very dire .
The dire wolf was a relative of the modern-day wolf. It was distinct from other wolves by being even more specialized for eating meat. It was also stronger, capable of dealing with the larger mammals that lived at the same time as the dire wolf. It lived in packs and would prey on anything the group could overpower. This animal is believed to have gone extinct about 10,000 years ago.
the dire wolf
A dire wolf is a wolf that lived quite some time ago. There was nothing too special about it, but it no longer exists. Another possible animal you may be talking about is the fantasy, Dire wolf. That wolf is commonly mentioned in D&D as well as many other games and books. This fantasy Dire wolf is nothing like the actual dire wolf, besides its wolfness. The actual dire wolf was not a spawn of evil or some huge wolf ridden by goblins. The real thing was just a big wolf. it was a wolf that was to the normal wolf what the tiger is to the lion bigger stronger faster lonlier. The Dire wolf was about as tall as the smallest gray wolf today is (just a little over 24inches at the shoulder). The thing is, they were really heavy, but the average gray wolf alive today towers over it.
The name of Jon's Dire-wolf is Ghost, because of it being an Albino Dire-wolf
They have been known to rip the heads off of people yes they are very strong do not mess with a dire wolf you will die and fast but painful death.
Dire wolves were predators much like the Timber Wolf is today. They would've hunted down bison, deer, wild horse, etc.
The dire wolf is not doing any running these days as it has been extinct for over 10,000 years. We have no record of how fast they were able to run.
