No battles . I think you are missing the point of the Cold War because there were no battles it was called "Cold". There were a few standoffs and threats, but for the most part it was the western powers looking at the communist dictatorship through the lens of containment.

The cold war from the point of view of the people and country's that were being literally destroyed was certainly not the Third world war. However from the point of view of those that make cold hard cash and gain power it was actually better then the second world war.

Ah, but the East and West were very much at war: A war of ideologies, a war of political one-upsmanship, a war of nerves. The only thing it didn't have was shooting. So no hot guns blazing away, as in a typical "hot" war. Just nerves and hubris - a "cold" war.
