Depends on the time period that the art was painted or created. For instance a woman wearing a white dress in a Renaissance painting pointed to the idea she was a virgin and pure. Women symbolized to prominent ideas of the virgin or the harlot in Renaissance art. Within paintings there were many symbols for the viewer.
There are many statements that best describe Renaissance art. Renaissance art was somewhat religious, but also showed humans in more natural environments.
during the renaissance people expressed new idea's in a whole bunch of different subjects. Art expressed idea's that never had been shown or maybe even never thought of.
