You meant "affect" and not effect. It did many things that would be hard to list in one post. Really, if you wiki gold rush you can see history and trends resulting from it. But in short it established a large American presence in the west; much quicker than if there wasn't one. This then allowed for new forms of trade and merchants to develop.
