it is important that Mayella has bruises on the right side of her face because it helps prove that Tom Robinson did not hit Mayella in her face. We know he did not hit her because when he was young he got his left hand stuck in a cotton gin and he cannot use his left hand. Because he cannot use his left hand, he certainly cannot hit with is left hand and if someone got hit on there right side of their face, the attacker is Left handed.

Mayella's bruises on the right side of her face were important because they indicated that she was most likely struck by a left-handed person. This detail became significant during the trial to suggest Tom Robinson's innocence, as he had a non-functional left arm and could not have physically inflicted the injuries on her right side.

This proved that Tom Robinson could not have beaten Mayella, and that her father did. The fact that Mayella had bruises on the right side of her face indicates the attacker must have been left handed, which her father is. Tom could not have beaten her with his left hand, as he lost his left arm in a cotton gin accident.

If Mayella was beat on the right side of her face, than a left handed man must have done it. Pretend to punch someone in the face with your left fist. Your hand naturally swings towards the right. It proves that Tom Robinson couldn't have done it because his left hand is crippled, and it points the blame towards Mayella's left-handed father.

Since she had a bruise on the right side of her face, she had to be punched with a left hand. Mr. Bob Ewell, her father, was left handed and Tom Robinson, the guy accused of punching her, didn't have a left hand because It was cut off when he was young in a Cotton Mill.
