Jem showed up on the first day and she had a new teacher who didn't know any of them. The teacher offers a boy called Walter Cunningham some lunch money because he doesn't have any of his own and Scout tells her that the Cunningham's wont take nothing of no body. Scout gets in trouble with her teacher for interrupting in class and decided to take revenge on Walter for getting her into trouble by hitting him.Jem later comes along and breaks up the fight and invites Walter over for dinner. When at their house Scout complains because Walter puts syrup all over his meat. She is taken away from the table and told to be more respectful of others by Calpurnis.Scout is also told of by her teacher because she is already able to read because she reads every night with her father but her teacher says she has to stop and that she has been taught in the wrong way. Also a child called Burris Ewell shows up who is dirty and smelly and poor and only ever goes to school on the first day of term to avoid trouble from the truancy agent.Somehow (cant remember how sorry) Burris makes the new teacher cry. After this Scout decides she never wants to go back to school again. Hope this helps :)

In "To Kill a Mockingbird," incidents involving the children at school include Scout's conflicts with her teacher Miss Caroline Fisher, the bullying of Walter Cunningham by Burris Ewell, and Scout's fight with Cecil Jacobs. These events highlight themes of class differences, empathy, and racism present in the book.
