Millers traditionally operated a mill that ground a grain, such as wheat, into flour. On occasion, millers would also grind other things that were needed in powder form, such as certain building materials.

A miller runs a mill. In the Middle Ages a mill was the method of grinding grain to make flour. A mill could be run through water power or wind power, or could be run by oxen. The miller had a good grasp of mechanics used to transmit power and change its direction.
