The last colony to agree to join the Australian Federation was Western Australia, because they felt cut off from Australia as their main city, Perth, was one of the furthest away from any other of the big cities.

The South Australian colony was the last to be established. This was done in 1836. Whilst Melbourne was also established in 1836, it was not the first settlement in the colony of Victoria.
Well first of all, the british parliament said that australia should federate because when australia didnt fedarate, every where had its own laws. This was when trouble happened. Tourists who came around to other places didnt know the laws and was jailed. After Australia federated, they decided to have a constitution where there is a book full of the laws we use in Australia.

This was because the British Government was against establishing a parliament in Western Australia, as growth rates were slower there, being more isolated, and it was also the last colony to still be receiving convicts.Western Australia was finally granted self-government in 1889, some thirty years after all the other colonies.
On 1 January 1901, the Federation of Australia was brought into existence. The Australian colonies were joined to form the Commonwealth of Australia. The state of the Commonwealth of Australia was born with a vote to Federate with the Australian British colonies.
