The convention began on May 25, 1787 with twelve sates. They unanimously elected George Washington as President of the Convention. For each State there was one vote. All of the rules were voted on including secrecy. The people at the convention did support a stronger national government.
The main fight at the constitutional convention was that Jefferson wanted independence and Adams said no you cannot because its unconstitutional!

James Madison
On 25th May, 1787 George Washington was elected chairman of Philadelphia convention. This was the first order of business of the convention. The main business on the convention's agenda was "Virginia plan" presented by Governor of Virginia Edmund Randolph. It dealt with new structure of government.
He was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, and his main contribution was to lend his reputation in support of the Federalists, who sought to write a new Constitution that empowered the federal government.
