I don't think they "desired" African slaves. At first many explorers brought back people from places they had visited on their voyages, but most of them died before the explorers could get the new slaves back to Europe. So i don't think the African slaves were really targeted, it was just from where the explorers sailed to.
Unlike most African countries, Ethiopia was never a European colony, for this reason it has been important to modern Africa as a symbol of independence
European languages are spoken in Africa today primarily due to colonization by European countries. The imposition of European languages during the colonial period resulted in them becoming official languages in many African countries. Additionally, ongoing economic, political, and social ties with European countries have contributed to the continued use of these languages in Africa.
The reason why many African countries (such as Libya) did not become nation states until after World WWII was because of European imperialism.
Neocolonialism is certainly a part of the reason that African countries are underdeveloped. The exploitation of Africa's resources by wealthy foreign businesses (European, American, Chinese, and Russian) prevents the governments and peoples of these countries from properly profiting from these resources themselves. However, neocolonialism is not the only reason for African country's underdevelopment. Some other very important reasons are: internal corruption within African governments, ethnic and tribal disputes, low levels of national unity, infrastructure failures, lack of industrial development, poor allocation of foreign AID money, and high tariffs and non-tariff barriers on African products in developed countries and/or subsidies for domestically-produced equivalents in developed countries that shut out African competitors.

One reason is that many of the cars, even European brands (not to mention Japanese brands), are manufactured in the US. A second reason are higher tax rates in the European countries.
The European Union is an organisation for countries in Europe, so the US could not join. There are over 50 countries in Europe, 28 of which are members of the European Union. There is no reason why the US would even want to join the European Union. It would make no sense for them to do so.
Independence turned violent where european colonists settled.
