They disagreed on what type of government (central or state), the economy (commerce or agriculture), the interpretation of the Constitution (loose or strict), and what type of people (wealthy or common man) should be leading the country.
Hamilton favored a strong central government, with reduced power for the states. He also backed industrialization and manufacturing, leading to extensive international trade. Jefferson believed the states were surrendering only limited powers to the central government. He favored farming over manufacturing, and thus rural over urban interests.
