Deimos is a Greek word meaning terror. It is a satellite of the planet Mars. Mars, because of its reddish color (reminding people of blood) was thought by the ancient Greeks to be the God of War. When it was discovered that Mars had two small moons, they were named Phobos and Deimos, meaning fear and terror, because those are the emotions which accompany war.
