JFK had a Star class sailboat (22") named Flash II. He had a Wianno Senior (26") named Victura. I think this is the boat that is seen in the photos of him on deck or at the helm.
He also sailed a boat owned by the Coast Guard called Manitou (62").
His boat was PT-109. It was an 80-foot Motor Torpedo Boat (PT boat) with a mahogany wood hull, and its main armament consisted of four torpedo tubes, two on each side of the craft. These fast, light boats could travel at up to 41 knots and were designed to attack submarines, transports, and surface ships much larger than they were.
PT-109 was sunk by collision with a Japanese destroyer, leaving the injured surviving crewmen to swim to nearby islands before finally being rescued.
The name of the ship JFK served on was called PT-109.
The USS John F. Kennedy (CVA-67), the last conventional carrier to be built by the U.S., is nicknamed "Big John".
