In French, 'huguenot' was the name for protestants. There is no old French coin known as a 'huguenot' - but there is a 1924 US half-dollar called 'Hugenot-Walloon tercentenary'. (follow link)

Of uncertain origin; probably an Anglicized form of a French Huguenot name.

I do not have concrete reasoning that it is not a Huguenot surname but I can say that I doubt it. My last name is Romary and my family's Catholic ancestry dates back to 17th century France. There have been French Catholic priests named Romary as well as Olympians who registered as Catholics with the last name Romary. If Romary was Huguenot, I doubt there would be so many registered Catholics with the surname.
English and French: variant of Rosamond (see Roseman), from the female personal name. German: probably from a Huguenot name Rosemont or its Germanized form Rosemund.
