The Book of Deuteronomy is believed to be the earliest completed book of The Bible, in much the form we have today, written during the seventh-century BCE reign of King Josiah. However, Micahand the first 39 chapters of the Book of Isaiah are a little older.

Parts of the Books of Genesis and Exodus are thought to be particularly ancient, dating back to the ninth or tenth century BCE.

The first "Catholic" Bible, better known as the first Christian Bible was not put together as such until the the Councils of Hippo in 393 A.D., and the Council of Carthage I in 397 A.D. and the Council of Rome. Pope Innocent I, who died in 417 wrote a letter in which he listed the canon of Scripture which mirrors the Decree of Damasus (Council of Rome, 382 A.D.) as well as the decrees of the Councils of Hippo and Carthage. That Bible, which was in use by the Church at the time is now called the Old Latin Bible, it contained the entire Old Testament which had been in use by most of the Jews since the 4th century B.C., the Greek translation of which was known as the Septuagint, and the New Testament. Shortly after these decrees, St. Jerome issued a new translation made entirely from the original tongues of both the Septuagint and the Greek New Testament, this has been known as the Vulgate, and was in common, approved use by all Christian Churches until recently.
