Then the rum was brought to Africa and traded for gold and slaves. The slaves would come to the Americas on the Middle Passage (just the name for that leg of the triangle since it cut across the *middle* of the Atlantic) where they were sold by slavers to anyone who would bid enough for them. Also more slaves were obtained by the currently owned slaves having children. The children were now your slaves too.
