The success of the Jamestown colony is largely credited John Smith, who instilled a philosophy of hard work in the colonists. He also traded with the local Native American tribes, notably the Nansemonds.
No native tribe was located in Jamestown since it was an English colony and the natives were mainly kept outside. The area that became Jamestown had previously been occupied by the tribes of the Powhatan group.
Everybody was looking for gold, and nobody was planting crops. Also, the people who came over (on the first trip) was some kind of merchant. At the time John Smith was the only one with military training in the Colony. So, the reason why there were so many problems was starvation, lack of leadership, organization, lack of survival skills, lack of knowledge of the area (to just name a few problems the Jamestown Colony had). The colony also suffered from desertion on a large scale. Within a few years of settlement , many colonists deserted the colony and either lived with the local Native Americans ( they also adopted the Native American ways and abandon their own) or lived by themselves, usually in wooded areas. Later, the officials in Jamestown believed that if they attack local Native American tribes they will be able to capture the deserters or force the Native Americans to give them up. Unfortunately, the officials started to target tribes that had no deserters in them. These attacks left the tribes in shock and anger and led to retaliation attacks on Jamestown.
No, not a political leader. He was however the first profitable tobacco planter in the Virginia Colonies. He was also the son-in-law of Wahunsenacawh, the chief of the Powhatan (local Native American tribe); Rolfe married Pocahontas, renaming her Rebecca when she was baptised.

There were a couple causes for why the people of Jamestown left. The main reasons were strained relationships with the local Native Americans, drought, and a host of several diseases carried by mosquitoes and caused by poor water and other items that caused colonists to starve and die.

When the men landed to form the Jamestown colony they had problems with the native Americans in the area. They built a fort and within the first six months of the 107 who landed only 44 were still alive. This is due to a combination of disease and attacks by the local Native Americans. So, the interactions between the colonist and the Native Americans wasn't very good.
The Native Americans in and around Jamestown didn’t help them or associate with the men. The fort was built in an Native American empire of 15,000 and there were 104 men in Jamestown. They built the fort on the worse land in the area with mosquitoes and bad water. The local tribes knew this and all they had to do is wait for them to die. Within six months there were only 34 left alive.
rights to settlers to tax local Native Americans or to make them work. In exchange these settlers were supposed to protect the Native American people and convert them to Christianity.
Because, bartering, my definition, is trading. Without trading with the local native americans, Jamestown villagers would have died off. And if they died off, one could argue that there would be no America. So you see trading has made us what we are today. But maybe if Jamestown would have died off our good ole american lives could be much diffrent.
