A:The pool with five porches is called Bethseda in John 5:2. Archaeologists have confirmed the existence of this pool and say it was part of a temple to the Greek god of healing, Asclepius. Presumably it is because it was a pagan temple that it was not permitted inside the city walls and required to be near the sheep markets.
